Elias Adestam is 17 years old, lives in Nacka and competes for KAK Motorsport. Already when he was five, he had his first contact with motorsport, in a so-called cross kart built by father Rickard.

– That summer, grandpa couldn’t grow potatoes, because the field was my race track, recalls Elias Adestam. That’s where my interest in racing was born. I felt that this was something I really wanted to invest in.

Debut at age 8

The real step into competition was taken at the end of 2014. Elias Adestam was then eight years old, and debuted in karting in the entry-level Cadetti class. The following year, he advanced to the slightly larger Micro class, where he remained in 2016 as well – at the same time as he began to climb higher and higher in the results lists around Sweden.

2017 turned out to be an important year for Elias Adestam. The shift through the Swedish karting system continued, now with a bet on the important Formula Mini class where he quickly set the pace.

– I was a rookie and the youngest among the top drivers in the championship, but still managed to win the season opener in the MKR series. It was an important breakthrough for me on a personal level. I grew a lot with that. The year was marked by a series of further victories and podium places, with gold in the prestigious Swedish Cup as the greatest achievement.

– It was great fun to be on top of the podium so many times, and I learned one thing above all: you never get used to winning!

Real car racing

The success on the karting scene came in parallel with Adestam approaching his teenage years, and thus the age when the step to real car racing comes increasingly into focus. Ahead of the 2019 season, the decision was also made to dip his feet in new waters, when Adestam as a 13-year-old – with a dispensation from the Swedish Motor Sports Association – took a place in the Scandinavian entry-level class Aquila Synergy Cup.

– I finished fourth in the championship, as the best Swede, comments Adestam. It was very, very educational. We got a receipt that the speed was there, and it was a season that really gave more flavor. For me, the love for the sport became even greater than it already was.

On the weekends between the Aquila races, the Adestam family took the opportunity to hone their form, with one foot still in karting. Several top results were achieved, although the effort on the go-kart track gradually became more and more relaxed as the car racing project took up more and more time.

Season 2020

In 2020, all the power, and all the focus, was finally concentrated in the car racing pit. Adestam continued on the beaten path and completed his second season in the Aquila Synergy Cup, where he was in the title discussion all the way to the finals and finally salvaged a deserving silver medal.

At the end of the year, right after the Aquila final at the Kinnekulle Ring, Adestam also got the chance to guest play in the season finale of the Formula Nordic series – Sweden’s premier racing championship for juniors. The debut turned out well, and Adestam took a first step towards the platform that he has clearly set his sights on for 2021.

– Formula Nordic is the natural next step, concludes Elias Adestam. We had the opportunity to do a test race there in the final last year, and it was a positive experience. We had good lap times, especially when you consider that the others had been driving for a full season or more, and it was a great fun car to drive.

The goal is to be able to compete fully in Formula Nordic in 2021 and then fight for the championship. I think I have the potential for it. My future as a professional racing driver is up for grabs…
